1. Read or watch news stories about Cuba on the BBC.

2. Discuss with your parents which businesses you will solicit gift cards or gift certificates from for the Model UN dinner raffle.  Make a plan about when you will visit the business.


3. Also discuss who you will invite to the dinner.  Consider family members, friends, friends of the family, neighbors, teachers. etc as possible guests.  Tell them the date and the details of the dinner, and find out if they are able to purchase a ticket and attend the event.

Using the web site above, try to find a GA resolution that fits your topic.  Read the document, and record the resolution number.  (ex: A/RES/69/266)

4. Start writing the second section of your paper (get at least halfway done).  Use your outline for the order of your sentences.  Remember, you will probably need at least 2 paragraphs for this section.  Don't forget to cite your sources with parentheses.

Homework 1/8/15

1. Keep watching the 1 minute news on the BBC web site.

2. Decide which business you will visit to solicit a gift card or certificate for our dinner raffle.  Discuss a  date when to visit with a parent.  Also discuss selling your tickets-who will be your invited guests?

3. Outline the second section of your paper.  This section should include:
How is Cuba doing in terms of your topic?
What is Cuba's relationship to this topic?
How does Cuba compare to its surrounding countries? To other island nations?
What types of improvements does Cuba need to make (if any)?
Have they made improvements over the last decade?

**Look for statistics and documents to support your ideas.
4. Please e-mail me your outline and make changes to the first section of your paper.

1. Record 2 news stories from the BBC.
2. Come prepared for your group work.  Are you on track for finishing your project by the end of January?
3.  Write the 1st paragraph of your position paper.  It can be broken into 2 smaller paragraphs.

Homework due 12/11/14

1. Continue to watch the BBC and record 2 news stories.
2. Come prepared for the next stage of the backboard, art,  flag or mini-flag project.
3.  Write the topic sentence of your position paper.  This will be the sentence that introduces your topic.  Look in your delegate guide (in your binder) for an example.
4. Decide on the other details that will be in the first paragraph.  Will they be: a UN document, a UN convention, a worldwide statistic?  Will you have a quote from a UN official?  Do you have enough history about your topic?  What other details will you include in this paragraph?  Write out these details in note form with bullet points (or type it). Seek out other web sites if you think you need more information.
5. Every time you use a web site for your position paper, copy and paste it into your source list.  This will eventually be the last part of your position paper.

1. Record 2 news stories from BBC News.

2. Communicate with your group, and bring in what is needed to the next meeting.

3. Read about what the definition of a NGO.

4.Try to find a NGO that is working with Cuba and your topic.  If you can't find a Cuban NGO, find a NGO that is working in the Caribbean, Latin America or at least an NGO that is involved with your issue.  Print out a page from their web site.

Homework due 11/20/14

1. Watch the BBC and record at least 2 news stories.

2.  Communicate with your group, and bring in what is needed to the next meeting.

3. Practice presenting your Powerpoint with your group.  Divide up the speaking parts and check your slides for any spelling or capitalization errors.

4. Look for 2 articles that relate to your topic (try the BBC web site and the UN News Centre web site).  Print them out and bring them to the meeting.  Write a summary of each article.

5. Are you getting close the your EE goal?  Have you been making sales every week?

Homework due 11/13/14

1. Watch the BBC 1 Minute News and record 2 news stories.

2. Form a small group of 2-4 people.  Find an international charity that is working in Central America or South America.  Areas of focus: improving primary education, medical needs of children, access to clean water, orphanages, etc.  Prepare one Powerpoint presenation to explain the following items:
Name of charity
What their purpose is
Where does the money go (is there overhead, or does 100% of the money raised go towards their cause)
Do they accept international donations (a Paypal link is needed)
Why you think it is worth supporting
